Network funded research projects

The Networks have provided funding for small research projects that aim to explore novel concepts and create new partnerships within the research community. The findings from these projects are provided below. 

Impact of Hydrogen Standards on the UK Transportation System (iHYLAST)

This project was led by Dr Stuart Hillmansen at the University of Birmingham in collaboration with Dr Anthony Velazquez Abad and Dr Melinda Matyas at the Transport Research Laboratory and Dr Zhiwei Ma of Durham University.  

This six month research project was completed in July 2022

Development of a smart hybrid system with advanced hydrogen refuelling logistics for railway applications

This project was led by Dr  Tamer Kamel at University of Birmingham in collaboration with Dr Stuart Hillmansen and Dr Pietro Tricoli, also at Birmingham and Dr Zhongbei Tian of University of Liverpool. 

This six month research project was completed in July 2022

Computational analysis of a zero-carbon hydrogen fuelled thermal engine for heavy duty transport applications

This project was led by Dr  Efstathios-Al Tingas of  Edinburgh Napier University in collaboration with Professor Manosh Paul of  Glasgow University.  

This nine month research project was completed in June 2022

AmmoniaSHIP: Ammonia powered Ship with Proton conducting solid oxide fuel cells

This project was led by Dr Sivaprakash Sengodan of Imperial College London in collaboration with Professor Stephen Skinner, also of Imperial. 

This six month research project was completed in March 2022

Analysis of a Strategic Hydrogen Refuelling Infrastructure

This project was led by Dr Christa Searle at Herriot-Watt University, supported by colleagues, Professor Philip Greening, Dr Nadia Taou, Dr Senlei Wang and Dr Dhanan Utono.

This six month research project was completed in February 2022

Techno-economic feasibility of hydrogen fuelled freight transportation

This project was led by Dr Ramin Raeesi at the University of Kent, in collaboration with Professor Phil Greening, Herriot-Watt University, Dr Nazmiye Ozkan at Cranfield University, Dr Mi Tian of Exeter University and Dr Laura Marsiliani at Durham University. This six month research project was completed in February 2022
